instincts, trust them

I read this book years ago and this one opened my eyes into the dealing with people and relationships. It is entitled "The Gift of Fear", written by Gavin De Becker. It is about using your fear, or intuition, and recognizing that when it pops up, even for no apparent reason, you are free to act upon it.

After reading this book, you now know that you don't have to account for or dismiss any fears you have to anyone. For example, the guy that keeps asking you out but there is just something about him that you can't shake, although no one else seems to notice. It is absolutely okay for you to say NO. And you don't have to offer anyone any justifications or excuses or lack of.

I've had this super sense happen to me a couple of times, only to find out years later that I was very very right. Reading case histories will help reinforce your instincts, know what to look for, and especially to never justify anyone's actions.
